James's Baked Spaghetti
This recipe is by far my most favorite comfort food we make in this household. James's baked spaghetti is family staple meal for us.
We love having these for a hearty, easy weeknight dinner. It's also great for potlucks!
This was inspired by my Spaghetti Squash Bake, and pairs well with my Cheesy Bread.

Ingredients
-
2 tablespoon salted butter
-
1 small white onion chopped
-
1 lb hamburger meat
-
2-3 cloves garlic
-
1 dash garlic salt
-
1 dash Italian seasoning
-
24 oz tomato sauce
-
8 small shiitake mushrooms sliced
-
16 oz dried spaghetti noodles = 1 box of Barilla Spaghetti
-
2-3 handfuls shredded parmesan cheese to your liking!
Directions
Preheat your oven to 450℉.
Melt your butter in your baking dish on the stove. Then add your hamburger meat and cook on medium heat until browned and thoroughly cooked through.
While the meat cooks, chop your white onion with your cutting knife and cutting board. When the meat is done, turn heat to medium-low and add in your onion.
While the onions soften, grab your tomato sauce and add to the baking dish. Then chop up your cloves of garlic and slice your shiitake mushrooms. Add those in as well and stir everything together. Turn to low heat and let simmer while you work on your noodles.
Follow the instructions on the box of your spaghetti for proper water measurements. Add the water to your large stovetop pot, place on stove, and turn on high heat until you reach a rolling boil.
When your water is boiling, add in your spaghetti noodles and cook them as described on your box.
When the noodles are done, drain the noodles and then transfer them to your tomato sauce baking dish.
Using your spatula, fold the noodles into the tomato sauce. Then sprinkle the entire surface with your shredded parmesan cheese and bake in the oven for 10 minutes.
Remove and let cool slightly before serving!

Storage
Cool It Down: Let the baked spaghetti cool to room temperature before storing. This helps prevent condensation in the container, which can make the pasta soggy.
Refrigerate: Use an airtight container for storing in the fridge. Alternatively, you can store it in the original baking dish by covering it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Store it for up to 3-4 days in the fridge.
Freezer: For longer storage, freeze baked spaghetti for up to 2-3 months. To do this, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and a layer of foil or use a freezer-safe container.
Reheat Properly: When ready to eat, reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through, or microwave single portions for convenience. Add a splash of water or sauce before reheating to prevent dryness.
