Homemade Spicy Margarita
You know those days when you just want to treat yourself? Well this drink is just that. I loved making this recipe from scratch - it was so easy and I got a delicious and refreshing alcoholic drink for myself within minutes. It's cheaper than buying a drink at the bar and customizable to what I like with my alcohol 🌶️🍹
This drink is great anytime of the year, especially warm summer days, but make sure you have it when you're home and settled in one place for a few hours - no drinking and driving!
This was inspired by my Feeling Sexy Cocktail recipe and I had some leftover limes from my Keylime Pie recipe.
Hint: I highly recommend adding ice to your cup to give it an extra refreshing taste.
Substitutions
- Fruits - you can use whichever fruits you enjoy most! I like using one tart and one sweet to give the drink a nice balance.
- Tequila - though I used Patron, you're welcome to use your preferred brand of tequila.
- Dry - instead of tequila, add some sparkling water or club soda!
Variations
- Sweet - remove the chili and cayenne pepper from the mix to keep it on the sweeter side. You can also substitute the lime with a lemon or a few strawberries!
- Deluxe - try adding some salt to the rim of your cup!
Storage
- Refrigeration: If you have leftover spicy margarita, transfer it into a clean, airtight container. Ensure the container has a tight-sealing lid to prevent any leaks or spills.
- Avoid Freezing: Due to the alcohol content, it's not advisable to freeze homemade spicy margarita. Freezing can alter the taste and texture of the drink.
- Temperature: Store the spicy margarita in the refrigerator rather than at room temperature. The cool environment helps preserve its flavors and prevents spoilage.
- Duration: Homemade spicy margarita can generally be stored in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. After that, its flavor may start to degrade.
- Shaking before Serving: Before serving, give the stored spicy margarita a good shake to remix any settled ingredients and ensure the flavors are well-distributed.
- Garnishes: If your margarita includes garnishes like lime wedges or chili salt rims, store them separately from the drink to prevent them from becoming soggy.
- Fresh Ingredients: For the best taste, use fresh ingredients when making your spicy margarita. This includes freshly squeezed lime juice, orange juice, and quality tequila.

It's a treat yourself kinda night <3

Ingredients
- 1 large lime
- 1 large orange
- 2 tablespoon honey
- 1 shot tequila I used Patron
- 1 small dash chili powder
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper I mean the tiniest dash
- ice cubes
Optional
-
1 sliver jalapenos 'cause we fancy
Directions
Grab a small mixing bowl. Zest one tablespoon of the lime and the orange and place in the cup. Squeeze the entire lime and the entire orange into the bowl as well. Stir together (I used a fork for stirring).
Add in your honey, chili powder, and cayenne pepper. Stir together again.
Add some ice to your mason jar/drinking cup. Then grab your strainer and place over the mouth of your mason jar/cup. Pour the contents of your small mixing bowl through the strainer into the mason jar/cup. Add your shot of tequila and stir again.
I like to add a sliver of jalapeños to finish off the drink, but that's totally optional! Enjoy your drink!
