Caramel Sugar Pretzel Bites

Ingredients

  • 1 box King Arthur Soft & Chewy Pretzel Bites Mix Kit includes flour (14 oz or 1¾ cups), glaze (1½ tbsp), yeast packet (~½ tbsp), and salt (⅔ tbsp)

  • 1 cup hot water ~110-115℉

  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • ⅓ cup cold water

  • 2 tablespoon butter melted; salted or unsalted works

  • 1 cup sugar

  • caramel drizzle

Directions

  1. Grab your large mixing bowl and combine the hot water, oil, and the kit's yeast packet. Using your fork, give it a nice quick mix before adding in the pretzel box flour mixture. Mix together until you're able to get a large transferrable dough texture.

  2. Flour a flat surface and transfer the dough to the surface. Knead the dough 3-4 minutes until the dough is bouncy. Cover the dough with a damp towel rag and set aside for 15 minutes.

  3. While the dough rises, wash your fork and grab your medium mixing bowl. Combine the kit's glaze packet with your cold water and mix together with your fork. Set aside.

  4. When the dough is done rising, grab your cutting board and cutting knife and divide the dough into 4 equal parts (making a "+" into the dough ball will get you equal parts). Then, preheat your oven to 375℉.

  5. Roll each quarter of dough into a ~15" dough rope. Cut each rope into about 10 pieces.

  6. Grab your two baking sheets and line with parchment paper. I like buttering my parchment to add some nice crunch and flavor to the bottom of my pretzel bites, but do what makes ya happy.

  7. Next, grab your mixing bowl with your glaze and working 10 pieces at a time, roll the dough pieces in your glaze and then transfer to your baking sheet. Repeat for all the pretzel bites. Ultimately, you want to have about 20 pieces on each baking sheet, evenly distributed so they can bake evenly without touching.

  8. Next, sprinkle the bites with the salt from the mix kit box. Let the pretzel bites rise for 5 minutes before putting in the oven.

  9. Then, bake for 15-20 minutes rotating the baking sheets halfway through for even baking.

  10. While the bites bake, wash your large and medium mixing bowl. When the bites are done, remove and let cool until you can comfortably touch them.

  11. In your large bowl, add in your melted butter. In your medium bowl, add your sugar. Similarly to the process of rolling the bites in the kit's glaze, you're going to roll the baked bites in your melted butter, ~10 at a time.

  12. Then roll them in your sugar bowl so you make a nice sugar coated pretzel bite. The extent to which you want the pieces to be sugar-coated is completely up to you. Complete the process for all your pretzel bites.

  13. When everything's sugar coated, drizzle some caramel sauce across your batch if you're feeling fancy 😉
